Germination Basics: What Works for Us
The Method
We use a simple, reliable method that works consistently.
Steps
- Soak: Place seeds in room-temperature water for 12-24 hours
- Paper towel: Transfer to damp (not wet) paper towel
- Environment: Keep at 70-75°F, dark place
- Plant: Once taproot emerges (usually 2-3 days), plant in medium
Key Points
- Don't over-soak seeds
- Paper towel should be damp, not soaking wet
- Temperature is crucial - too cold and germination slows
- Plant taproot down, about 1/4 inch deep
Common Mistakes
- Over-watering during soak
- Planting too deep
- Not maintaining consistent temperature
- Handling taproots roughly
Success Rate
Using this method, we consistently see 90%+ germination rates.
